Despite the existence of safe treatments for obesity like bariatric surgery, Americans still don’t take advantage of these opportunities to lose weight. Obesity treatments are not generally accepted by the public due to the high cost, inconvenience, and anxiety some patients get surrounding surgery. But the bigger reason is that less intrusive and safer surgical procedures for obesity don’t receive much attention from media and public health institutions.
