Just over a year ago, companies were gearing up to commercialize in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), a technology which promises to enable the creation of eggs and sperm from adult cells, and the potential market for this is huge. However, this is premature as the technology is still at a basic level, and the history of ARTs in general shows that they have not been patented and have not brought riches to their developers.
