Made from biological materials, Xenobots are the first robots that can replicate by themselves. These “living” robots are an interdisciplinary feat created by biologists, roboticists, and computer scientists in 2020. They’re made of frog cells that have been stripped of their frogness and moulded by evolutionary algorithms. Set free but observed under a microscope, the Xenobots collaborated and performed basic tasks, before eventually creating copies of themselves from cells they found in their watery home.
