It seems that ‘playing the system’ and rebranding your business to include keywords to rank higher on Google may be a prime example of Game Theory. Colan Nielsen explains that while a business will rank higher in search results by adding keywords, there’s no benefit when everyone else does the same; once everyone rebrands to include the same keywords, the keywords’ ranking power becomes less useful, and you’re left with a brand name that might not imprint on customers’ minds, causing you to potentially lose business.
