The inflation theory, which states that the Universe quickly expanded after the Big Bang before suddenly stopping, solves three burning questions about the cosmos. One such question is the horizon problem. The cosmic microwave background (CMB) — “afterglow” left behind after the Big Bang — was observed to be the same temperature in all directions, which confounded scientists because of its sheer distance.
