Poets of Kashmir: Inspiration and the Artistic Process

For many Kashmiri poets, poetry is a way of avoiding erasure — not only of themselves, but also their history. Prof. Ather Zia is one such author; she focuses on the ongoing political struggle in the region and suggests that writing is a means to process and heal from our experiences. She had even begun to write in Kashmiri with increasing frequency, moving away from English, effectively defying what’s demanded of her and her fellow Kashmiri by the postcolonial condition.
