Is chaos coming to the Earth-moon system? A recent study using rock formation analysis found that the moon’s distance from Earth has been growing by around 3.8 cm each year. Researchers studied and interpreted the sedimentary rocks undergoing a climatic precession cycle, comparing the thickness of the rocks and the colour variations. They are on a quest to gather additional data that will support the discovery – and they’re wondering about the effects of this inevitable change in the moon’s proximity to Earth on its inhabitants. Improving media literacy could boost trust towards the news, IMPRESS report suggests
The UK media is regulated by the likes of IPSO and Ofcom. The report by press regulator IMPRESS highlights the link between low levels of media literacy and trust in the news. The study found that three quarters of those who did not know if journalists were regulated did not trust the news. It suggests that improving media literacy is one way to stem the erosion of trust, and shows that audiences have an appetite for information on news processes.
