While researching for a horse sculpture, Leonardo da Vinci ended up furthering the field of horse care. The Renaissance man was a curious fellow who wanted his art to be impeccably accurate. He didn’t horse around when it came to accuracy; he dissected a horse to learn its anatomy for the sculpture, learning so much that he decided to write a book about it. The phrase “man in the arena” has been popularized in recent years, but a lesser known, more dangerous archetype is the “priest in the arena”.
