Dr. Donald Teare’s declaration that seatbelts caused 28 people to die in an aircrash fuelled the already growing public scepticism over the safety device. However, he was dangerously wrong. Scientists worked together to debunk his findings and concluded it was impossible for seatbelts to have killed them because of the lack of injury to bladders and stomachs.
