It’s believed that Homo sapiens reached Europe around 44,000 years ago and that Neanderthals died out a few thousand years after H. sapiens set foot on the continent. However, the tooth of a 2 to 6-year-old child suggests that H. sapiens may have arrived about thousands of years earlier than previously thought. The tooth was estimated to be around 51,700 to 56,800 years-old, and may be proof of a H. sapiens community existing for 10,000 years before they successfully settled in Europe.
