Pacifiers may not be as detrimental to speech development as we initially thought. Research has shown that pacifiers don’t seem to have an incredibly significant effect on speech development; in fact, it seems to reduce typical speech errors made by very young children. Daytime pacifier use does seem to be positively correlated with more atypical speech errors, but only in the short term; the children seem to correct themselves over time, at around four years old.
