Some say that part of the reason why manga is growing more popular than American comics is due to its politics. Mangaka (manga writers) include politics in a way that doesn’t come across as virtue-signalling; they typically don’t shoehorn their political stances into their works, letting the stories speak for themselves. In contrast, American comic writers are perceived to overly politicise their works; with publications blatantly being written with a political lens, readers, both veterans and newcomers to the genre alike, are growing increasingly suffocated.
