Carl Schorske was one of the leading figures that revolutionized the study of history, giving rise to what we know as cultural history — an intertwining of culture and politics. Although his aspirations of analysing history and culture in tandem only stirred in his college years, it’s likely that he was influenced as a young boy; his family was engaged in politics, and also had the resources to expose him to the greatest arts New York City had to offer.
